I got into crochet during lockdown at the end of 2019. I picked up a crochet hook and bought some wool, however, after a week of trying I got myself into a knot and got very frustrated and (naturally) I gave up. A couple months later, I picked it up again and I knew exactly what to do. It was like magic. I’ve been crocheting for 3 years now and have never looked back. Having anxiety has impacted my life in so many different ways and I know at the end of the day when I pick up my crochet project and put on an episode of how I  met your mother everything else fades away. I love creating, and naturally, I am a people pleaser so I think crocheting items for people definitely serves that aspect within myself.

When I saw the creativity and the effort Jess had put into crocheting I had a newfound appreciation for the intricate art. It amazed me what one could make with a single hook and a ball of wool. At first I asked Jess to make me a thing or two, but then I thought to myself, “maybe I should give it a go.” The two of us went down to the beach one summer afternoon. We layed out our towels, brought out a few crochet tools, and got comfortable! We sat on the beautiful coast of Cape Town for a few hours whilst Jess taught me how to make the simplest crochet stitch in the book. After many days of practice I finally got the hang of it! Since then I have never stopped. Crocheting has become another creative outlet of mine and it brings me immense joy from the start of a project right to the very end. I have only been crocheting for just over a year but my passion grows with each item I make.

Our Story

How the two of us met

People often assume we’re just best friends, but we’re so much more, we’re basically sisters (in-laws), I have to thank my twin for introducing Steph to me, I will forever be in his debt. We’ve both never met anyone more alike than ourselves, until we met each other! So naturally, we had the same hobbies and we are so grateful to be able to create in the company of each other.  We are our happiest when we are together, watching old Disney movies and crocheting.

Why we started The Two of Us

Starting a brand where we could create and design beautiful crochet items sounded like a dream. We had this big idea for a while but we were often nervous to make it a reality, which we think is a natural feeling when it comes to creating a business, until one day we sat down and decided to make our dream a reality.

Our friends and family members absolutely loved everything we came up with, from little hats for Steph’s dog Pi, to outfits for our very first festival. All the support we received from the people around us only encouraged us to create more, and now we wish to share our creations with you, and we hope you love them as much as we loved creating them.

Our brand values

Our brand is considered a strong passion of ours, to continuously work on our brand is to continuously work on ourselves as our brand aligns with our values. We see our brand, The Two of Us, constantly evolving and growing into something wonderful and something we are proud to call our own.

Creativity

Each piece is thought out, designed and then created by the two of us with some yarn and crochet hooks. Each item holds a uniqueness as no item is exactly the same. We wish to inspire people with our different color palettes, different textures and various patterns, our creativity flows with each stitch we make. The crocheting process is a timely and intricate practice and takes us many hours, days and often weeks to complete an item, that is, depending on the item in the making. With the items we create and sell, we hope to brighten your closet and perhaps shine a new light on the art of crochet. This is only the beginning.

Growth.png

Growth

As we grow as individuals, so do our dreams. Our dream is to create a space that is colorful, safe and happy where we can share our creations with you. The Two of Us is a brand that we see showing great growth potential as we work hard to achieve our dreams. We want you to grow with us, as a community to build this happy, colorful space filled with creative creations made with love.

Timeless.png

Timeless

Our crochet pieces will remain timeless. So many talented individuals are now creating gorgeous homeware and clothing from the art of crochet, and we are excited to be a part of the movement! You can wear our pieces forever, and the best part - every single item is unique and your own. What do we mean by that? Every stitch is different, every way we crochet an item is different. We think that is something very special, something you can call your very own unique piece.

Inclusivity.png

Inclusivity

We, as a brand, aim to include individuals of all shapes, sizes, color and backgrounds. Our items are not made to fit a specific body type or a specific individual. All sizes will be included in the making of our items. Use the size guide below to make sure of your measurements so that the measurements of the piece fit your body accordingly.

Sustainability.png

Sustainability

Waste occurs at every stage of the garment manufacturing process which harms wildlife, degrades the land and pollutes soil and water. The fast fashion industry is a significant contributor to the climate crisis, fast fashion is responsible for as much as 10% of global carbon dioxide emissions. What is fast fashion? Fast fashion is the reproduction of clothing items to fit a trend, therefore these items are mass produced to fit the high demand. This is wasteful and contributes negatively to the environment. However, with many businesses coming to this realization, slow fashion was born. What is slow fashion? Slow fashion is about creating mindful, curated collections based on quality finishes, versus  pumping out large quantities of seasonal and trendy clothing. The Two of Us is a slow fashion brand that cares about the environment, therefore we promote sustainability and the welfare of the environment.

Care

Care content.png

1

Place your crochet item in a laundry bag (even a pillow case!) and tie the top, this prevents it from getting tangled and simply pop in into the washing machine with the rest of your laundry.

2

Your crochet item should be air dried when possible, and not run through a clothes dryer.
